Elbow Patch Tutorial

Ever since I launched my new site, I’ve been wanting to get a DIY tutorial posted. Between both Glenna and my parents coming to visit, and spending the past week in Spokane with Mike’s family, I finally got a minute to put one together!

I have SO many sweaters/sweatshirts that I never wear anymore mainly because I’m bored with them. So instead of getting rid of all of them, my plan is to revamp them one way or another, starting with Elbow Patches!

The main things you’ll need, are Scissors, a Needle & Thread, something to create the patch pattern out of, material, and a sweater.
My plan was to take some cardboard and sketch out an oval for the patch, but it just so happened that the cardboard I picked out had an oval already on it. And to make things even easier, it had different sized ovals that I ended up using for the different fabrics.
I took the cardboard patterns and traced them onto the fabric that I chose, and sewed the two fabrics together by hand, using backstitch.
Next, I took a pin, and marked where the center of my elbow hit. This made it easy to get the placement of the patch right. I pinned the patch on, hand sewed it on to my sweatshirt using backstitch, and VOILA!
Elbow Patches!
